This is a review of Twisted But True by Darren Burch. The book starts out talking about where his passion for saving lives and keeping people safe came from. The first two chapters discuss two separate incidents which lead to him becoming a police officer. In the third chapter, he becomes a part of the CIA, but it doesn't last due to him being a single father. From there, he ends up joining the police department in Phoenix.

Each chapter of this book tells a tale of the various calls he responded to throughout his job. They thoroughly describe the dangerous, outrageous and, at times silly, scenarios that only police officers have to deal with on a day to day basis. Each tale ends with a twist of some kind such as some minor details not mentioned during the tale. Those minor details could have been how an act of stupidity turned into an embarrassing injury or a simple misunderstanding.

I'm rating this book a 4 out of 4 stars because I was entertained by every tale and disappointed when I finished the book. I enjoyed reading about the various people that make up society and the different kinds of mischief they get involved in. I also enjoyed learning about the job of a police officer and the rules they work by. I read about the various job levels within the police department and how they're different from each other.

The author explained how they spot suspicious activity, and how they decide to make an approach in terms of staying safe and making sure the suspect doesn't notice them and attempts to escape. Also, not all calls were about drunk people breaking the law or causing a disturbance. Some of them were to simply check up on an elderly citizen who hasn't been seen or heard from, or investigate a foul odor coming from a nearby residence.

I'd say this book was well edited as I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors. Each chapter title was accurate for the situation the author was responding to. There wasn't any point in the book where I got bored of reading or lost interest in continuing which is why I think this book deserves a 4 star rating. This book is a great read for anyone wanting to learn more about being a police officer or curious about the intense and humorous calls they respond to. The title Twisted But True made me think I was going to be reading about gruesome homicides/suicides and bloody crime scenes. This book wasn't THAT twisted, but that didn't make me enjoy it any less.
