Twisted threads by Kaylin McFarren is a novel based on several genres: crime, romance, mystery and thriller. Akira Sato who is also known as Mariko Mitsui is the main character. She is a trained assassin who works for the Zakura Kai, Japan's notorious Yakuza family. Although she is young, she has accomplished so much as an assassin but she is tired of that way of life. The killing starts taking a toll on her and it comes to a point where she wants to stop and start fresh. She sees the last job as a good opportunity to do that and get her freedom from Mitsui who is her boss. She is supposed to board a cruise ship and do her last job since the people she is supposed to assassinate are on the same cruise ship. Little does she know that a lot of things are going to happen and it won't be that easy. She will get to feel love for the first time in her life when she least expects it and that will for a short period of time throw her off on what she was exactly supposed to do. She will also learn new things which will change her as a person for the better.

For someone who is looking for a little bit of everything in one sitting, this is the right book for you. The plot of the story transitions so well from one scenario to another because the romance part of it kicks in at the right time, the crime part of it leaves you with a good amount of suspense that you don't want to stop reading and when the secrets start coming out and the truth is revealed, you as a reader realize that you didn't see it coming.

Personally, the problem I have with it is one: the watcher character. As you read the book, you will encounter the watcher at the very beginning and at the end. I feel like the watcher should have been given more chapters because the character has a lot of significance to the story but in this, she has been put in such a way that even if the character wasn't involved, the storyline would still be fine and make sense. the ending is surprising because you don't have a clue on it going like that but it does. the author is really good with creating suspense and making scenarios unpredictable and building up an expectation which makes you want to read the book even more

I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars because of how the watcher character wasn't heavily expanded on. In all other cases, the book is nice and very enjoyable. The vocabulary used is very good too. Overall, it's a good read.

This book definitely has a little bit of everything. I also think the watcher could have been developed a bit more. Great review!
