Becoming the dragon transports us to a land full of magical creatures, a land of orcs, elves and dragons. You might have read about these creatures before in other books, but this book expands on what we already know about these creatures.

Through Andy’s journey towards becoming a dragon, we are inspired in our own personal journeys. Andy had many bad things happen to him, but he never felt sorry for himself. He never gave up his will to live, even when he was facing so much torment.

The story is imaginative and captivating. The villainous characters are unlike any other I have ever read about, and while I am rooting for Andy, I identify with other characters too. I also can’t help but draw parallels between evil magical creatures and real life villains.

Andy’s fighting spirit is infectious. This book will leave you wanting to fight whatever obstacles that stand in your way. He has numerous opportunities to give up but he always finds strength from within to keep on fighting. He never loses sight of his goal.

This was a very enjoyable read, I was sad to read the final page and I cannot wait to find the next book in this sequel. I identified most with Andy, but other characters were also relatable. The descriptive details about the characters were detailed enough to help form a mental picture.

Most heroes have extra ordinary lives right from the moment they are born. Some of them are born privileged while the rest begin to overcome great obstacles at childhood. Andy is different because he has what we would consider an ordinary childhood, much like the rest of us. He is easy to identify with. More than anything, it is his strength of character that makes him great.

Andy and Karegar’s friendship is something we can all aspire to. In a world where everyone else is only looking out for themselves, they come out on top by sticking together. It was with Karegar’s help that Andy transformed into a dragon. His transformation to a dragon was incredible and a true pleasure to read.

I rate this book 4 out of 4. It was quite enjoyable and is full of useful life lessons. This book will appeal most to lovers of science fiction, but people who read other genres should not rule it out. There’s a bit of everything for everyone.
