The Elf Archive - Book Two of the Magi Charter by Jordan David is the second installment of the fantasy tale of the North Pole, Santa, and the Elves. It follows the continuing adventures of Santa Nicolas, Noel Night, and the other elves at the North Pole and elsewhere.
Five years have passed since Noel Night was appointed the head of the Historical and Preservation Department and he is still coming to grasp the width and breadth of just what it is his department encompasses. Noel is still a one-elf department and still awaiting the completion of his new departmental space. More books are turned in to Noel and he is having difficulty finding space to store them. Some of the older elves remember a library at the North Pole, but it was closed down and sealed off. No one remembers its exact location thus Noel begins his hunt for the lost library. In the midst of Noel's search for the library, Santa Nicolas decides he wants a wife, and a search for a new Mrs. Claus begins.
We get a glimpse of Noel's past as well as the introduction to the elder elves living in the retirement village. We also learn of Noel's nemesis that is also behind the sealing of the Library, the suppression of the elves memories of life before the North Pole, and the secrets of the First Contact Department. We further learn of the interworking of the departments and their history. We are also introduced to the events of the Reindeer Games.
Once again, there are numerous editorial issues within the book with over ten errors found. There were many instances of similar words used incorrectly throughout the book. Examples were the use of consul in reference to a computer console, gap and gapped used instead of the words gape and gaped, and the word lore in the place of the word lure. Again, the errors were distracting and detracted from the reading enjoyment.
I give The Elf Archive by Jordan David, 3 out of 4 stars. As the second book in the series, it picks up from the first quite nicely and quickly moves the story along. I especially like the cliffhanger Mr. David leaves at the end of each book to draw you into the next book. The book is very well written despite the editing problems. The only reason I did not give four stars was due to the numerous editing errors. Even with the editing issues, I would still recommend this book to readers of the fantasy genre and to readers of any age.
