[Following is a volunteer review of "Heaven and Earth" by Arturo Riojas.]

Heaven and Earth by Arturo Riojas is a science fiction book based on aliens and humans being able to put their differences aside to be able to survive a common threat. Although the book is a story tale, there are still beneficial truths that is helpful in today's society. The aliens are made out to be far superior in intellect and technology and have been observing earth for centuries without them knowing. Putting all this aside the book main purpose is to expose readers to the truth of cadmium poisoning.
The flow of the book was very smooth, that leaves you longing for more and you can easily become hooked to the book without realizing it. The writing was well put together with great description of each character and the scene. In the early chapters, every character was described in full details and a brief description of past events leading up to the main climax of the story. The book also gives the impression that the possibility of aliens existing and observing and we may never know.
The book is both interesting and insightful with the storyline of the book, a science-fiction “aliens from another planet” theme, to the facts about cadmium poisoning. At the end of each chapter there are couple facts about cadmium poisoning that shows the author has done a lot of research on the topic. Dr. Arturo Riojas has brought a clear analogy of a serious health concerns that impacts on our society today. We poison our lives by what we eat, smoke or even inhale as second hand smoke. The author has also made it clear that some people are aware but still go ahead by poisoning their lives since effects are not immediate.
The purpose of the book was fulfilled in my judgment. In the beginning the author stated that there were two main purpose of the book. First of which was to disseminate information regarding a serious health issue that is plaguing our society, which is cadmium poisoning, and the other purpose being a stimulating and thought-provoking source of entertainment for the reader.
I rate Heaven and Earth 3 out of 4 stars. It is a very good book and I would recommend it for everybody to read. It is very intriguing to read as it encourages imagination and increases knowledge about actual health issues that affects everyone and most people do not even know they are being affected. This book highlights those health issues in an interesting story telling way.
