Mayor of PØmpington: Contesting Aliens by Dr. HB Paksoy is an interesting story and one filled with laughter. The Mayor suffered a double concussion and was put in a chemically induced coma because if by chance he woke up, he would immediately leave the hospital. While in the coma, he dreams—though he doesn’t realize he’s dreaming. He dreams of being intimate with his wife, and he is interrupted by people telling him they want him to deliver a specific message to specific audiences. They tell him they’ll put the information directly into his mind and that they can also read his thoughts.
Throughout the process, they will accompany him and protect him.

He is not sure if the aliens are controlling everything happening in his life. He meets the Director at the French Fusion Center, where they try to discover the contents of an encrypted message intercepted by their technician, who is highly intelligent. He falls in love with a lieutenant who later gets promoted to commander, and they plan to get married. Unfortunately, he is killed by a terrorist group. The Mayor's life becomes sad, and thus he wonders if all the aliens are controlling all these activities happening to him.

I must say, the storyline was not what I expected. Based on the title, I expected a story involving aliens competing for power or control, which was not captured in detail. All I read was how different countries' heads of state reported directly to the governing alien authority. I didn't see any of the aliens contesting to control any information or any agency. It only talked about how the Mayor was sent on missions, became brave, how tragic his life was, and the beautiful ladies admiring the Mayor.

Just as the story begins, the Mayor is in a chemically induced coma. I expected he would wake up at the end because the story seemed to be happening in the Mayor's dream. I liked the fact that the story incorporated humor in the story. The characters were well-developed, and the events were vividly described, which enabled me to picture every aspect of the book in my mind. I liked that the book was short. The story was a bit complex; the introduction was what I expected, but in the middle of the story, I got lost because there wasn't much mention of the aliens. I did not get closure about the unknown agency behind the white vans.

I gave the book 3 out of 5 stars, deducting two because I did not get closure on many aspects of the story, and somewhere in the story I got lost several times. The second star deduction is because the ending was not what I expected. Maybe if there is another book, the ending will be better. I gave that rating because despite those reasons, it still was well edited, and it managed to capture readers' attention in other aspects.

Adults are the most suitable readers for the story because of the sexual content in the book. Readers who enjoy fictional stories might enjoy this one, bearing in mind this is the third book in the series of the Mayor books by Dr. HB Paksoy.

Thought control by aliens makes for an interesting story. I also like novels that are short. Humor is also welcomed by me. Thank you for this review.

I remember reading the opening chapter for a recent BOTD, the plot is definitely intriguing. That review did sound interesting and thought-provoking book, but for mature readers only. However, your POV about not getting a closure is valid and can be upsetting. I appreciate your honest review.

Though this book sounds a little interesting, I am not sure if I will read it. I am not a big fan of science fiction. You also mentioned that the story contained loose ends. Maybe there will be a part 2? Your review is good and informative. I know what to expect if I give this book a try.
