I just finished reading this book, and I’d have to give it middle of the road marks. The book itself is well written and edited and for a story that happens over many years, it does flow quite well.

The overall science of the book was easy enough to follow and did provide decent explanations for things/events that are real/plausible. I did enjoy the overall theme of the book and the world ending neutron star and the effect it had on the earth over the years was a clever touch.

However, I found the characters in the book flat and boring, there was little life to them and in some cases no character development or growth, Some characters would also just pop into the book randomly with no explanation as to who or why they were suddenly there.

Descriptions of people, places, objects at times was also rather lacking. The author really could have benefited from taking the time to describe and set up the scene, as it could be hard to picture what they were trying to convey at times.

But the part that bothered me the most was the authors decision to have all the world leaders just flat out agree with the Americans, have no input and just work together with no conflicts or sabotage. for a non-fiction si-fi this was the most unrealistic aspect and honestly it just felt like lazy writing. So much more depth to the story could have been achieved had this aspect been explored.
