J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison's Fish Wielder is one of the novels that is not for the weak-hearted. It is a tale full of endless, deadly adventures, breath taking and mind popping battles, heartwarming love stories, twists you told yourself that would happen and never ending laugh-out-loud moments. But that is not true, well, the 'not for the weak hearted part' I mean.

Fish Wielder is a story about an awesome hero named Thoral Mighty Fist or the Fist Wielder. He is a magnificent specimen that is both strong and handsome. With otherworldy and unbelievable skills in battle and a true heart of a hero. He is every bit of the typical 'knight in shining armor' we have become accustomed to.

The story mainly revolves on Thoral's adventures in the world of Grome together with his bestfriend Brad, a talking fish and how those adventures of a mighty hero became so funny and yet so serious.

The ironies never stop as if mocking the very same genre this novel has been categorized into. One example would be this. Have you noticed Thoral's title, Fist Wielder? Does it not look odd to you? Does it not ring a bell? When I first heard it, I immediately looked at the title again. I thought it was a typo at first, but realized that it was not. This story is really called Fish Wielder. Then I realized again; was it because of Brad?

As we progress with the story of Thoral, his daily life with Brad seeking whatever it is they were bound to seek, we are bombarded with the same scenarios we always see in any other adventure/romance/fantasy story. But what made the novel different is that, the author makes it enjoyable by elaborating the obvious, like he is saying that, cliches are so ridiculous, can't we be more unpredictable?

One of the things I liked about Fish Wielder is its originality and wittiness. I have never read a novel quite like this before, that is why I had a hard time to adjust at first, but when I got the gist of it, I could not stop reading.

I also liked how the author always made it a point to insert an educational section in the story. See, there were times that Thoral would ask Brad about an uncommon word, sometimes one that is not so uncommon yet the reader would eventually realize that he or she has to go to a dictionary just to know its meaning. In the later parts of the books though there were some unfamiliar words for me. How does ageusic and anosmic sound to you? Because it sounded new to me.

Again, a mockery, on my opinion, over the hard words authors tend to place into their novels even though they can use one of the easy ones.

Eventhough I was fully entertained by Thoral's adventures and Brad's constant eye-rolling over the silliness of it all, I found this to be a bit lengthy at times. I think that there were some parts that did not need to be elaborated that much. Like, 'Okay, we get it. Now get to the good part.'

I give Fish Wielder a 3 out of 4 stars. It is not a perfect book that made me stay up all night because of excitement but it was not a boring book either. The novel has flaws for me, but they are too minor and I think half of it was because of my own preference on novels.

The novel was perfectly edited. There were no typos. The grammar is clean. The humor is on point and overall, it is a novel for every soul who seeks adventure, a too good to be true hero and something that will make you laugh because of the absurdity of it all.

It is a little bit hard to explain my true feelings and thoughts about this book without giving so much away, because as I have said, this is the first time I have encountered this kind of storytelling, so if you are intrigued, go grab Fish Wielder and join in the fun.
