“Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches from Outer Space!” authored by I.S. Noah, tells the story of an alien visit to the planet and how humans react to this encounter. The combination of science fiction, humor, and satire provides a fascinating tale of bizarre events, sophisticated technology, family dynamics, unscrupulous politicians and secret agents. The author’s descriptions of scenery, secret installations and creatures are vivid and prosaic. Humor is subtle; e.g., when Willys asks if Chernobyl is one of the X-Men, a Rottweiler is named Tiny, and a Chihuahua goes by Brutus.

I love how the author exposes politicians and high-ranking officers with sharp, satirical wit. Most people suspect that politicians are unscrupulous, and even if it’s just a novel and all hypothetical, it’s easy to relate to their reactions. I find how the Wilson family takes responsibility and plans to protect Willys endearing. Noah portrays superb examples of friendship, family unity and the kindness of strangers. The characters are realistic, with flaws, fears and admirable qualities. The description of the aliens, their unique qualities, their pets, and their demeanor is unique and entertaining.

The novel is well-paced and keeps readers engaged. The story is easy to follow and understandable to young readers. It includes some admirable quotes, my favorite being from Eeyore in “Winnie the Pooh," who said, “A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.”

The characters in this novel do seem to revert to violence quite often. Is it fear or the influence of video games and movies that causes people, even kids, to choose a violent action as their first option in an unwanted situation? That was the only aspect of the book I didn’t enjoy as much as the rest.

I found a few errors, but, in my opinion, the book was professionally edited. I have no reason to deduct any stars and rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a story with thrills, twists, and turns that will keep readers entertained from beginning to end. Children older than twelve will enjoy it.

This book presents an intriguing blend of biblical analysis and metaphorical interpretation, urging readers to reflect on their own purpose and service to God. However, the complexity of the metaphors and the assumption of prior biblical knowledge may make it challenging for some readers to fully grasp the author’s message. Nice review.
