EMA is science fiction set a few decades in the future. It describes a frightening turn that artificial intelligence could take, based on a dark reality that many people may think about, but wouldn’t want to say aloud.

Aian's writing is refreshingly straightforward. The plot remains in the same time frame  for most of the story, which consistently moves forward. There aren’t too many flashbacks or flash forwards that can sometimes make a book confusing. The author uses just enough detail that the reader gets the point. I want to emphasize that this is a great thing, because moving away from the main plot to deep-dive into a side plot can make a story hard for the reader to follow.

Artificial intelligence technology, economics, and environmental science are brought together in a reasonably realistic future setting. Given the current state of  technology, the economy, and the issues with the environment, it would make sense that the events in EMA could happen in 2084. It seems possible that things like self-driving vehicles would become the norm. It definitely is possible that people will find a more immersive way to meet up in a virtual world. It also makes sense that there would be glitches in what seems like an infallible plan that could potentially cause catastrophic outcomes.

There isn’t a huge emphasis on character development, but there is just enough to move the story along. I find this refreshing in comparison to other books where the author uses a full chapter to talk about several things that happened in a character’s past which led to a decision they made.

I noticed that there were no errors in the newest version of the book. There was one spelling error in the older version, but was corrected in the newer version. Some of the words had extra spaces between them throughout the book, but I wasn’t sure if I was seeing it because of how my phone interacts with the reading application.

This book was definitely enjoyable to read. I would recommend this book to teens and adults that want a book that is easy to follow. It may evoke ideas about what they want the future to look like.
