The book is set in a world in which humans have left their home stars and colonized many planets. The power of human civilization has been divided into clans, which have been in alliance for 160 years. In the year 3525, the peace was broken, and a mining facility owned by one of the clans was attacked by an unknown force.
The story starts when Bev Colli, who was working as a mad japer (drill driver) on the mining planet, notices something unusual in the mines. The situation escalates, and the whole mining base is devastated by an unknown phenomenon. Aruld Erstallius was sent by his clan to investigate the situation on the field.
The alliance accuses the pirate organization (free traders outside of alliance control) of the attack, but Aruld suspects there is more to the situation than it seems.
In his search to uncover the truth, he searches to locate the survivors of the attack. On his journey, he meets the pirate captain's daughter, who begins to like his company. Will she be successful in gaining his affection?
Later, Aruld meets with Bev, who is on the run from her previous clan to free herself from being a worker in mines. After an exchange with her, Aruld learns that she experiences strange dreams of the mine incident. Together, they set out on a journey to find the true cause of the incident. Will they be able to resolve the tension between the clans and uncover the true culprit?
It is a sci-fi book that kept me engaged through its journey. The book can be confusing at the start, as it contains various changes in the perspectives between multiple characters rather than a single plot. The book is fast-paced and goes in-depth into the backgrounds of many characters. The various solar systems and worlds are well-made, along with their maps.
I will give this book 5 out of 5 stars for its developed characters, detailed world, and comprehensive plot. I recommend it to readers who love sci-fi and psychological mystery.
