Ever wondered whether Santa and flying reindeers really exist? Do Santas really spy on children to know whether they have been naughty or nice? Chimneys or portals? Well then, The Elf Brief is the book for you. With a mix of fantasy, comedy, mystery and drama this book is a must read for all. The Elf Brief, written by Jordan David is told as a story about an elf by the name Noel Night. Noel used to work in the List department in the North Pole but was assigned a task outside his department to document the transition of the new Santa.


His experiences with the human world and the north pole gives us the best of both worlds. As he documents his findings on the retired Santas and the new Santa, it makes you wonder what it would be like to live as a normal human being then one day become a Santa and live for centuries and still interact with humans who used to know you but cannot remember you. I loved how the characters played out, everything felt natural and I could visualize how the events unfolded.


The author has done an excellent job capturing his readers and making them feel as though they are watching everything as it happens. From how elves leave the human world, join the north pole to work full-time for the good of Christmas lovers and make gifts for little children, to how letters are sent by children to Santa, inspecting whether the child in question deserves the Christmas gift all the way to toy making and having the gift delivered to the child.


I really enjoyed reading this book, it had simple English and an easy to understand writing method which makes it an excellent choice for any reader, young or old. I would recommend it to parents who want their children to improve their English vocabulary since it is not only simple but also very amusing. If you are not into fantasy or Christmas, then this book might not be for you, though I highly doubt anyone would be bored with it since I often found myself laughing alone observing how Noel moved from a timid elf to a bold elf who stood up to other intimidating elves.


Although I enjoyed this book, I rate it 3 out of 4 stars because of the few grammatical errors I found, such as “he new” instead of “he knew” misplaced commas and periods. These were mistakes that could have been easily avoided with proper editing.
