David Long is aboard the Aquarius, testing the antimatter system that powers the spaceship. His son, Garrett Long, had created a warp drive for the ship. Back on Earth, the readings were erratic, and David was told to return. He had a secret that would alter life for the planet. He engages the warp drive, and Aquarius explodes, ending the lives of six people. Garrett was angry that the president had fast-tracked the antimatter project. Seven days after his father’s death, Garrett and his immediate family are taken to a complex in Arizona. President Rebecca McCann tells them what David had kept from his family.

A neutron star was projected to destroy Earth on April 15, 2028. Since the discovery of the neutron star in the 1970s, ten ships have been built to accommodate ten thousand passengers. The Exodus project could not fail, and Garrett had to find out what went wrong with the Aquarius. While Garrett and his team spend countless hours investigating the readings, the president informs the public about the neutron star. Only twenty thousand people would be aboard the two ships in the United States. However, the effects of the neutron star in the atmosphere are killing people through massive earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and radiation bursts. Will Garrett be able to find and fix the warp drive issue before the neutron star rips apart the planet?

Exodus is a science fiction and dystopian novel. A race against time and requiring perfection were necessary for the continuation of human life. The need for security to prevent mistakes was not taken lightly. Imagining the tragic loss of life and desperation of the people could be felt. Garrett questions his morals when he watches the extreme measures to keep people away from the complex. To add even more turmoil, Garrett develops romantic feelings for another scientist, Jennifer. She refuses his affection, and when she tells him her reason, Garrett is stunned. The destination of the people aboard the ship was unknown to the characters. The intensity of stress in the unpredictable plot was easy to envision.

The amount of research that the authors used to create Exodus is commendable. Every contingency was explored in detail. The amount of development of each individual was exceptional. Despite the amount of detail, the pace of the story was never slowed down. I didn’t find anything to dislike in the book. I rate this phenomenal book five out of five stars for its captivating storytelling and well-developed characters.

Readers who are looking for a thrilling adventure with a touch of darkness will find Exodus to be a gripping read. The authors' attention to detail and ability to keep the story moving forward while still developing the characters were truly impressive.
