Review of Exodus
“Exodus” is a fascinating combination of science fiction and deep human drama that captures readers’ attention from the outset. This novel takes place in the near future on the verge of collapse, where it delves into attempts by humankind to survive an impending extinction-level event caused by a rogue neutron star called Ulysses.
It is one of those rare gems in this genre that manages to both thrill and be emotionally evocative as its authors skillfully weave an engaging narrative around it. The story revolves mainly around members of the Long family, especially David Long who invents an amazing anti-matter containment system, and his son Garrett Long who creates a revolutionary warp drive technology at the heart of the novel. Immediately after embarking on a dangerous expedition aimed at testing this invention aboard starship Aquarius within this plot, it turns into a fast-paced race against time with very high stakes to rescue humanity.
The tension inside it is almost tangible; while their descriptions of the technological wonders and threat of cosmic destruction make Exodus an immersive read. It distinguishes itself through its meticulous examination of moral dilemmas and burdening knowledge. One more twist was added by internal struggle with his father’s legacy faced by Garrett Long over moral decisions about which people should live or die.
All characters are fully developed, but there is something interesting that happens to him when he goes from being just another scientist detached from emotional involvement to becoming one of the most important figures for humanity’s survival. The novel excellently depicts various settings with vibrant descriptions such as: ‘The tense atmosphere of Aquarius mission’; ‘Secretive underground complexes where arks are being built’.
With every page turning you closer towards finding out what will happen next, since the gravitational pull exerted by neutron star causes suspense fueling plot outside Earth’s orbit. World-building here is extensive down to minute details, because advanced space technologies are used alongside government survival plans’ intricacies which add some mystery.
However, one outstanding positive aspect of this book deserves extra accolades for me. It doesn't just focus on the technological marvels and thrilling space exploration; it delves deeply into the moral questions surrounding who gets to survive and the heavy burden of making those life-and-death decisions.
In the end, This book has always been there for me since I’ve never felt any kind of regret after reading it because its aspects such as editing are polished well including every single word. The front cover looks amazing in pictures that make me want to read this book so much. I would rate it five stars without thinking twice or doubting my rating even a little bit.
