We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a fantasy novel by Mathew Tysz. Voulhire is a land of magic and political intrigue. Voulhire has nine cities; the capital city of Voulhire is Soulhire, where the King stays, King Wilhelm. The story begins when Galen, the main character in the novel, is travelling to the land of Voulhire from the Land of the Princess, which is a land of war. People often die of starvation or "death by sword." He aims to start a new life in Voulhire, which he believes is better than the land of Princess. Galen has no idea about the dark stories of the Kingdom of Voulhire.
Upon his arrival, he discovers that the kingdom has political instability, dark military forces, and social unrest. His mission was to inherit his uncle's house and forge. He meets Rowan, who helps him to settle in his new environment and to achieve his mission of inheritance. As he gets to familiarise himself with the environment, he gets involved in the conflicts where we get to know more of characters with different agendas.
As the story continues, we get to know more about political instability and magical forces in the Kingdom. The author discusses how they have influenced the Kingdom negatively. We also get to know of Emporer of Lullabies, who gifted his sons islands in the southern part of Voulhire. This was because he feared his sons would kill him to take his thrown. The book also educates on personal growth as Galen manages to discover himself and adapts to the new environment and confronts the challenges he encounters in his new environment, Voulhire.
I enjoyed this fantasy read. At some point, I wasn't sure if I was going to finish reading the book, but it got interesting as I continued reading it. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy; it's an amazing book. During my reading, I did not find any errors or typos; the book was well edited. I didn't find anything to dislike; therefore, I have decided to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Well deserved!
