The first installment of the Throne of Souls series, A Kingdom Forgotten, which has been penned by Charles W. McDonald Jr., is an epic mashup of science fiction, high/heroic fantasy, and military fiction. The narrative complexity of this book definitely stands out, as while there are strong tropes of science fiction, fantasy, and military fiction, the novel is not representative of any one particular genre. Perhaps this is why McDonald creates a multi-dimensional universe that can express the best and the worst in human beings: the creation and the sin, love, and hatred at the same time.

Without a doubt, the human emotions and consciousness that are explored to their maximum in the series are one of the main achievements of A Kingdom Forgotten. The reader can feel the warmth of McDonald’s affection for his characters in every line of the book; thus, readers are very much engrossed. Thus, the choice of the narrative and the combination of genres can be considered one of the book’s strengths.

I particularly love how McDonald characterizes his characters as being screened with a lot of dimensions and proximity to real life, which is why I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. Overall, the elements of magic, along with the incorporation of technology in the constructed world, are also appealing due to the uniqueness of the execution of the genre. The plot as well as the issues examined in the given novel make it a rather engaging book for those who like to read thought-provoking literature.

All things considered, A Kingdom Forgotten is quite readable and has severe scenes that can definitely surprise the reader. It is suitable for lovers of epic fantasy and sci-fi if they are ready to be challenged by an intellectual plot. It is a book that provides essential information and provides readers with new ideas and the making of a story in the form of a book, for nobody is perfect and no one has a perfect story or a perfect procedure of writing.

If you are a fan of novels that take time to dissect and process with multilayered characters and are ready to immerse yourself in such a rich and deep plot, I highly recommend this book called A Kingdom Forgotten. This book will have you hooked with its themes, characterizations, and plot construction. The second volume of the Throne of Souls series leaves you wanting for the next. I have no criticism of this book, and I didn't notice any grammatical errors or typos, signifying it was exceptionally edited.
