In The Elf Legacy, we’ve seen many elves and Santas at the North Pole. Some have left due to personal reasons, others leave due to being dismissed from service. The annual Mission cannot fail despite what each year brings in complexity as well as what the outside world is dealing with. The residents of the North Pole are not secluded to the outside world’s issues such as wars and uprisings. Sadly, the North Pole is not the utopian world many have come to expect. The elves as well as Santa must come to terms with the past and never allow personal issues to hinder their commitments. Some of the first elves, Anna, Tetsu (Master Lux), and Hilda (Doctor Angel Song) each face challenges threatening to ruin their legacies as well as friendships that have been made centuries ago. The Elf Legacy is book five in the Magi Charter Series by Jordan David. The Magi Charter Series is about the Mission of Santa to help those in need by delivering toys, trinkets and other small things as well as bring peace and goodwill to those Santa encounters along the way.
I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. It’s a rounded 2.5 due to several grammatical errors and well as error in word choice and the use of homophones. The word choice is an issue because the author seems to misspell or use incorrect words that contradict the used word’s meaning. For example, on page 274 (on my reader), the author uses alley instead of ally; dessert instead of desert (page 311 and throughout the book); and canon instead of cannon (page 395). The author’s use of homophones such as piece instead of peace (page 317); shear instead of sheer (page 335); and grown instead of groan (page 384).
I chose this book because it continues the Magi Charter series. The author does an amazing job of capturing the reader’s attention and the need to keep reader to see what happens next. The books, in general, are a good read and make for a fun time while reading them.
Others may like this book because it’s a part of a series, but it’s also family friendly. The tale of the Christmas Mission is a different aspect than other Christmas related books.
The storyline is easy to catch and once the reader is caught, you'll finish the story wanting more. I like the background we are getting on elves that we have previously met in the other books of the Magi Charter series. I have a sense of anticipation since I know what happens to some of these elves, but my dislike for some of the elves is worse now that I know how they started out.
I have several dislikes. The book has no set page numbers. As mentioned above in the rating section, the use of homophones gets the point across, but is slightly distracting when the reader can tell what word should be there.. A grammatical error seen on page 443 follows as “Do not compare me to, Tetsu!” instead of “Do not compare me to Tetsu!”. More spelling errors include using since instead of sense (page 354); champaign instead of champagne (page 360); begging instead of beginning (page 393); and trimmer instead of tremor (page 417).
