When I picked up We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, I was immediately drawn into its world. The book had an incredible start that hooked me from the very first page, and I found it hard to put it down. The story is rich with the elements of love, comedy, action, betrayal, and magic, creating an unforgettable journey.

The narrative spans two worlds: Caromentis, a realm of magic, and Cosmos, the physical universe. In Cosmos, the story focuses on Voulhire, a prosperous kingdom under King Wilhelm, which faces threats from rebel forces and the ominous presence of the supposedly dead Lord Meldorath. The plot follows Galen Bray, an immigrant who inherits his uncle’s blacksmith business and who might be the unexpected savior of Voulhire.

One of the things I loved most about this book was its flow and clarity. Despite having multiple independent narratives, the author skillfully linked all the scenes, making the story cohesive and engaging. The emotional depth of the book also stood out to me, from the humorous moments to the intense pain of Lord Eldus’s murder.

However, the use of modern English in a setting that depicts an ancient civilization was jarring. Words like "yeah" felt out of place and detracted from the immersion in the story. I believe using Old English would have enhanced the world-building significantly.

Despite this, I would still give the book a solid rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The author's skill in crafting a unique and suspenseful plot, combined with well-developed characters and a richly detailed world, made this a compelling read. The book was exceptionally well edited, with no grammatical errors, which I appreciated.

Overall, I absolutely found nothing to dislike about this book. I highly recommend We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to fans of fantasy and action. It’s a masterpiece that combines thrilling twists with profound themes, and I eagerly look forward to the next installment in the series.
