The Truth About Elves was written by Ekta R. Garg and published by Atmosphere Press. It is a fantasy novella set in contemporary times, showing us the magic that exists in unexpected places.

Curtis is a guy who undergoes trauma due to an unfortunate accident and, as a result, shuts out everyone he loves. He goes on to live a life of solitude, which includes a quarterly gig with Santa Claus as an elf every year. Years down the line, even working with Santa is unable to keep the demons at bay, and as such, he meets with Santa, his boss, in hopes of getting a break. Santa Claus instead asks him to take on one last assignment before granting his desired break. Who knows? This final task just might turn out to be the one that leads him to where he needs to go.

I liked the ease and simplicity of the book. I usually don't read novellas because they make me feel a little bereft at the end, like I've been deprived of something important, but I finished this story without that, which is a plus in my book. The flow was nice, and emotions were adequately passed across with beautiful and lovable characters.

As a sucker for love, I will say I wish the book went a little further in the love and romance trajectory I could see, but all in all, the story hit the points it was supposed to, which is all that matters.

Personally, it's a four out of five. It was an easy enough read that checked all my boxes. I would recommend this book to lovers of holiday stories, short story readers who want to go on a magical journey in as few pages as possible, and everyone in search of a good book to unwind.
