If you've not read "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz, you should. You're missing out big time on a very captivating dark fantasy novel with a really spellbinding and well-written story. For some reason, this is the first book I've read this month, and it's so convenient to have a perfect book to start with. Let me give a short overview of the book first, just to give you and all other potential readers a taste of what it's like. The book starts straight off on a high note with a dramatic confrontation involving magic and violence at Castle Hillport, leading to the fall of Lord Orlin and the rise of Lord Meldorath. That's just the prologue that sets the stage for the entire book. The story then shifts to Galen, an immigrant fleeing the chaos of the Lands of the Princes, who finds himself aboard a ship bound for Voulhire. He prepares to start a new life, wondering what the 'great skies' of the outspoken Voulhire have for him. Meanwhile, there is a grand parade to celebrate the Feast of Human Hands, led by King Wilhelm, that is meant to celebrate the prosperity and unity of Voulhire. Unknown to everyone, disaster looms.

First impressions matter, and Tysz must have known this! He has made an epic introduction to the series, this being the first in what should be an ongoing series called "We Are Voulhire." The book has been introduced so well that I'm compelled to read all the remaining books in the series. I'm not sure if they're this good, but I'm definitely hooked. The storyline is epic, and even though the focus has been on introducing Voulhire and its mysterious, magic-wielding characters, it has been written in such a way you'll definitely enjoy the story. There's enough suspense to keep you turning the pages. The overall theme of dark fantasy was amazing, and it gave me somewhat 'Lord of the Rings' or 'The Witcher' vibes. The characters are all well-placed, with all of them playing their roles perfectly. I hope to see this book made into a movie soon. I honestly don't think there is anything to hate in this book, and I give it a well-deserved rating of 5 out of 5 stars. You should all read this book—seriously. The book has been exceptionally well edited.
