Review of Searching for Zen
Searching for Zen by Albert T. Franklin talks about how a dark shadow covers the earth and how the powerful keep the population poor and uneducated. God intervenes by sending an angel to find a child named Zendaria to help humanity improve itself. Zendaria is born into a poor single mother in Britannia and learns about his mother's life and experiences. He sets out on a mission to find specific items, learns about his powers, and also seeks knowledge from various people while encountering mystical elements and challenges.
The book is a captivating tale that takes readers on an adventure with Zen, a person with remarkable skills. The plot unfolds through a series of intriguing meetings, exchanges, and events that keep readers interested and curious about Zen's journey. Fans of fantasy and mystical stories will find this book to be an engrossing and captivating read, as it blends adventure, magic, and human interactions in a world full of wonder and excitement.
One of the characters in the book that I find particularly intriguing is Zen himself. His mysterious nature and extraordinary abilities make him a compelling character. His journey is complex, and his interactions with others reveal layers of depth and mystery. Zen's unwavering determination and sense of responsibility showcase his compassionate and heroic nature. His internal struggles and external challenges make him relatable and engaging. The storyline that captivates me the most is Zen's quest to find specific artefacts. This quest adds an element of adventure and mystery to the narrative. The blend of adventure, magic, and the pursuit of ancient artefacts adds depth and intrigue to the story, making it an enthralling and immersive reading experience.
Searching for Zen is a captivating book, but there are some aspects that may not be as appealing. The protagonist, Vannick, is hard to connect with due to his one-dimensional nature and lack of depth. The storyline involving Vannick and his mercenaries feels predictable and cliché, missing the depth and nuance needed to make the character more compelling. The magical elements and mystical encounters in the book also fall short, with the pacing at times feeling rushed. More detailed descriptions and character development could have added depth and emotional resonance to the story, enhancing the overall reading experience.
Seeing how poorly the book was edited and the large number of errors I came across, I give this book a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Despite this, it was still a fantastic novel that I think fantasy fiction enthusiasts would love.
