Review of The Magician's Secret
I rate this book four out of five. There were quite a few typos and errors. For that reason, I cannot give this book a five-star rating. This book was an absolutely wonderful read. Summary of the book: A young man goes on a journey to live a more fulfilling life. While on his journey, he meets friends and enemies. Also, enemies become friends, and friends become enemies. His journey becomes complicated as things take turn after turn for the worse. Yet, the author writes this book in a way that allows the possibility of triumph for the main characters. In conclusion, the main characters are able to venture towards adventure and maybe even success, as the journey ends.
I enjoyed reading this book so much that once I started, it was very difficult for me to put it down. I especially enjoyed every single plot twist that occurred in the book. I think the plot twists were part of a great scheme. The plot twists made the book real, entertaining and exciting to read. The plot twists were definitely not expected. They were welcome, though. I love the characters and how they grew and changed throughout the different scenarios they encountered in the book. Profanity was used in the book, as well as created profanity, which I thought was a creative twist on the use of words. Sexual content was insinuated in a couple of instances but was not vulgar. I rate the sexual content of this book one out of five. I gave it this rating because there were a few blatant situations. Other scenes were insinuated. It was still a great book to read in general. I really appreciate the way the author vividly describes the settings, the attire and the facial expressions. This book was given life. Life was literally breathed into each of these characters. Through imagination, life was breathed into each of these locations and situations. There are so many challenging situations that occur in the book, yet it's interesting how the author writes the book in such a way that the reader looks forward to the victory of the underdog. The character development was very well written and very well thought out. It was clear that each character had a purpose. I can appreciate the fact that these characters, as they intertwine and intermingle, don't become distorted; each of them stands out on their own as well as definitely complimenting each other. Aside from the typos, I can honestly say that this is one of the better books that I've read in quite some time. I personally look forward to reading the second book. I can't wait to find out what happens to the characters and how they are further developed later on. As an avid reader, I would have appreciated a more substantial and gripping conclusion to the book. A cliffhanger that left the audience with more questions would have made for a better conclusion. The story wraps up very well. Everything seems to be under control but I feel like sometimes less is more. In that instance, the reader would be regaled and drawn in more for the next book.
