“We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies” is a fantasy series penned by Matthew Tysz that ultimately consists of nine books, among which this review relates to its first book. This is a science fiction novel with the concept of magic within it. The story centers on a person named Galen Bray, who has escaped from his native place called “The Lands of the Princes” because of the war that takes place in that land and immigrates to Voulhire. He was highly impressed by the advancement and culture of Voulhire and decided to continue the occupation of blacksmith, which was left behind for him by his uncle in Voulhire. Even though Voulhire is a place that is well-equipped with advanced knowledge, there are many political troubles, enemies, and people inside it who want to see its destruction. Going through these circumstances, how Galen Bray will make his survival in Voulhire can be determined by picking up a copy of “We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies."
The infusion of science fiction, thrillers, and supernatural conceptions into a single line made the plot of the novel more captivating. The character portrayal of each person in the book is splendid. I liked the author’s track record of giving importance and detailed descriptions to every character that dwells in the novel. The vivid writing style of the author gave me the experience of watching a real science fiction thriller movie. The illustrations of many scenes, mainly those that relate to the notion of magic, made me give a thumbs-up to the author’s imagination. The expression of friendship between Rowan and Galen is cheerful. Among many roles, one of the main characters that kept my expectations at their peak was Lord Meldorath. The way the author gave a lead to each role for the next part of the series is admirable. It is noteworthy to appreciate the author for presenting a glossary at the end of the novel, which may help the readers to a great extent.
The use of advanced wording in some sentences affected my flow of reading moderately. Apart from that, I didn’t find any negativity in this book. While reading the novel, I didn’t encounter any grammatical mistakes, which proves that the book was professionally edited.
In conclusion, “We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies” will be one of the best science fiction thrillers, for which I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to readers who love to enjoy fantasy experiences while reading. Since the novel contains mild child mistreatment, it is suitable for young adult readers.
