Lonely Riders is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel by author Michael D. Dennis. After his girlfriend Elise loses her job, the main character Kyle is forced to look for a job, doing whatever he can to make ends meet. When he meets a mysterious man named Michael, who offers him a well-paying job, he is willing to do anything to make money. This includes being a test dummy for an experiment to travel into a portal to the future. After undergoing a long period of medical experimentation, Kyle finally enters the portal, only to be transported to a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. In this new environment, Kyle encounters a witch named Epiphany as well as the last remnants of the human race in LA. Kyle is told that this future world is terrorized by an enemy known only as the Beast and that only he can stop it. How will Kyle learn to navigate his new life in the future, and will he find a way to kill the Beast?

What I like about this book is that it is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel, but it is unique because it has references to Christianity. Never before have I encountered a science fiction novel with references to Christianity, and, to be honest, I did not think it was possible. This book has references to the Rapture, the story of Moses, and an evil figure, which could be considered either the Antichrist or Satan himself.

This brings me to the negatives. As exciting as this book may be, I had a few issues with it. Number one is that Kyle’s girlfriend Elise clearly has a lot of mental health issues, and my problem is that Kyle refuses to tell her that she needs professional help. Number two is that the last few chapters seem to be thrown together. The plot has direction to it, but there are parts where everything is chaotic and makes little sense. My last issue is the number of typos I found related to formatting. These errors include missing quotation marks and forgetting to put a space between the first two words of a chapter.

Due to the number of typos that I found in the book, the rules state that I already have to max out my rating at four stars. However, due to my other issues with the book, I have settled on a rating of 3 stars out of 5. As for a recommended audience, due to the large amount of sexual content, I would suggest that only mature adults read this book.
