The Magician’s Secret by Charles Townsend is a fantasy book that blends magic and adventure. We get to meet a young man known as Delvin, who is a simple farmhand but also has a strong desire to become a magician’s apprentice. Delvin has overcome many challenges on his path to discovering the secret that is guarded by the mysterious Guild of Magicians. What are the magician’s secrets? What happens if the secrets are revealed? All are illustrated in the story by Charles Townsend.

The story begins with a twenty-year-old Delvin standing over the corpse of Borlock, who was his friend. He was unsure of what was happening, but he was the one holding the murder weapon and was also soaked in blood. Delvin is found guilty and sentenced to death by being hanged. However, he escapes death row and inherits the items left behind by Borlock. He then starts travelling and making his own magic shows with his friends.

The author does a good job of choosing the characters, as they all played their roles well. There was a good use of imagination by the author as well. The author also uses suspense, which made me eager to read the book even more. With the use of simple language, the book can also be read by any age group, including children. The use of direct speech also makes the book realistic and easy to understand.

I would rate the book 4 out of 5. It is well edited, as I found no typing errors. I took the one star away because, as much as the characters were well chosen, the author switches from one character to another without any clear change in the topic. This makes it harder for the readers to understand the plot. Otherwise, there was nothing I disliked in the story. I can recommend the book to lovers of magic storylines. This being my first book by Charles Townsend, I am also looking forward to more of his books, as I enjoyed the book.
