I have always wondered how any society will function without things like marriage and children. Jordan David has put that curiosity to rest with this exciting fantasy book “The Elf Brief.” Noel Night is an elf of 20 years that work in the List Department of North Pole. He got back from work one day, only to find out that he is been summon to a briefing by Santa Claus Papa Christo his first thought was what have he done wrong , will he be dismiss from North Pole. At the briefing Noel was surprise when he was given an assignment to follow two elves from First Contact Department to the outside world to record the process of recruiting a new Santa Claus. The present Santa Claus will retire that month after successful completed a 100 years service. In North Pole it is common knowledge among the Elves that each Santa Claus serve for a century before retiring while elves serve for 200 years before they too retire. Samuel Locke of Sydney, Australia has just been chosen to replace Santa Papa Christo, the Job is his if agree to take the Job. At first Samuel Locke thought the job offer was a hoax until he arrives at North Pole and realize he has less than a month to be transferred the power of Santa Claus at a ceremony witness by all elves and conducted by Mother elf and the present Santa Claus, which will give Samuel Locke a special power, like good memory, time dilation etc. Samuel Locke became reluctant to received Job after he realize how monumental the task ahead of him was, but with the help of Noel Night, and other Heads of department Samuel Locke (aka Santa Claus Papa Nicolas.) was able to learn about North Pole Departments (Factory, Warehouse, Elf Service, Husbandry, Kitchen etc.)
This book is filled with page turning Plots. Majority of the plots in the book is in North Pole by describing the operations of the various departments in North Pole this book was able to capture the excitement and efficiency of Santa Claus and his elves as they prepare for their mission “Of producing and delivery gifts around the world.” The elf’s joy and pride in their work could be felt with the turning of each page. The coding of department by hats colour was a genius creation it let the author generalize characters when it affect certain groups of elves. Factory: Red hats, Warehouse: Green Hats, Elf Service: Pink hats, Husbandry: Brown hats, Kitchen: Yellow berets etc.
Regarding plot I have always wonder what a society will look like without the burden of children and relationship. This book has deal with that issue for me. Jordan David has proven that most society with the above mention status quo will always be a society driven by Goal and objective a kind of single minded purpose society. Lovely plot this is.
The protagonist of this book should be two since we can’t separate the Santa from his Elf. I know Noel Night as a character is round and fully develop which is good. But the same should have been done to Samuel Locke, a bit of more detail about his background would have made Samuel Lock more dear to readers. Samuel Lock as the character that Noel was given assignment to record his ascension to a privilege position should at least have a Background detail that should not be neglected. We do not Know Samuel Locke pedigree, age, work, and his past.
The book has been edited. I enjoy the book so much that I could not put it down until I reached the last page. I will rate this book 3 out of 4. I would have love another ending rather than the hastily and generalize cross country tour of the world that the author has put together as the last chapter. So to me the book has a good beginning, excellent middle but poor finish.
I will recommend this book to people that love a good elf and Santa Claus story and those that like fantasy books. The lovely sense of humor and contagious excitement of the elves could not be over stated, it made the book Good recommendation for children too.

Really?

thanks, I will definitely read the other books in the series. I enjoyed the Book immensely that I had to read it at a fast pace, thus I was reluctant to read the other books in the series because of the way the book ended (I was expecting a lot of plots from their journey to deliver gifts)
