Review of 2084
The science fiction novel "2084," by Kadon Landon Peterson, delves into an anti-utopian future, challenging conventional dystopian themes. The narrative unfolds in a world where everyone is alike, with gender and culture eradicated. Following a devastating war in the 2030s, much of the planet, including the former United States, falls under the control of the World Peace Authority (WPA), a global organization tasked with creating "a more peaceful people" for "a more peaceful world." All forms of resistance were quelled, and the leading intellectuals of the time collaborated to shape the world. Personal possessions and wealth were exchanged for solutions to hunger, illness, and discontentment for all. Additionally, the WPA enacted laws in 2050 making natural childbirth illegal, citing the risks of genetic errors and their commitment to guiding humanity into a new era.
The story starts with a main character named "Dune". He narrates how it's going to be tough for humans to survive until 2030. The World Peace Authority (WPA) created "humans", a blend of human DNA and AI, claiming it brought about peace in the world. However, Dune and Fennec, a couple modified genetically, stand against the WPA as they decide to eradicate the remaining humans. Dune, Fennec, and the few remaining humans on Earth are resolute on bringing down the WPA no matter what.
One of the most excellent aspects of the book is its storytelling. The main character, Dune, provides insightful commentary on the world around him, which enriches the narrative. As the story unfolds, Dune's moral complexity becomes apparent, adding an element of unpredictability that keeps readers hooked.
The writer has done a brilliant job of blending practical scientific possibilities and psychological ideals with the reader's belief systems. The outcome is a story that makes you think deeply and feel uneasy, sticking with you long after you've finished the book.
The only negative I found was that the novel contains a lot of mature and sexual content. Therefore, I would only strongly suggest it for adult readers.
Overall, the book presents a fresh perspective on the dystopian genre, offering a unique and dark twist on familiar elements. The storytelling is excellent, and the themes explored are both thought-provoking and unsettling. The plot is well-crafted, with plenty of suspenseful moments and unexpected twists. The author employs many technical and scientific terms, showcasing his depth of knowledge. By blending strong imagination, scientific depth, and storytelling powers, the author creates a vivid future world that captivates readers. The content of the book is engaging, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys dystopian sci-fi and seeks a memorable read. Despite one or two typos, the book appears to have been edited professionally. In my opinion, it deserves a five-star rating.
