Time Before Time by Dan Dubose and Beau Dubose is a science fiction book about time travel. This writing team created a world that is nothing like the world we know. Creatures with abilities like humans control planets and want to control more of them. We know about travel between countries but travel between planets is the norm in this book. When the characters in the book speak of time, it is in the form of hundreds, thousands, millions, and billions of years. This is the background for the story.

I was inclined to picture Emerson Whitmore as the nutty professor, except he is a genius and has constructed a working time machine. He hires John Chantry to be his bodyguard. I liked John Chantry immediately. He is a veteran of the Elite Special Forces division of the Space Rangers. Chantry saw action on the moon and other planets. He uses the skills he honed during his military career in his bodyguard work for Professor Whitmore. When things get dicey, Chantry is quick to think and to react. Later in the story, another space veteran joins the cast. He also has talents that save the day multiple times.

Gilmore and Chantry’s trips in the time machine pod lead the reader into an epic adventure in space. More players appear, and the advanced scientific achievements are beyond what we presently know. It is fun to read what these characters do.

I believed in the concept of time travel in the context of the story because of the imaginative details the writers included. I enjoyed reading about the incredible adventures occurring throughout the novel. I recommend the book.

I would give this book a 5-star rating if not for the inefficient editing. The number of errors requires me to deduct a point. The rating is 4 out of 5.
