We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a fantasy novel that serves as an introduction to the book series We are Voulhire. The plot revolves around a large number of different characters and storylines, the most prominent being Galen Bray and Lord Eldus, as the author takes the reader on a journey throughout Voulhire.

Galen Bray is a refugee from the Lands of the Princes, who has tasked an executor, known to the reader as Rowan, with finding him and helping him take over his blacksmithing business following his death. In the town of Magnum Caelum, Galen Bray is given a chance at a life different from how he knew it in the Lands of the Princes.

Lord Eldus is a judge who was appointed as Lord of Hillport by the king of Voulhire, to improve the town following the failure of the previous Lord Meldorath to do so, who also experimented on people to improve his knowledge of magic. The official statement that was given is that Lord Meldorath committed suicide on his way to trial.

The novel is written from a first-person perspective, however the character, from which the story is told, switches with each chapter. I really enjoyed this book. While it was not as fast-paced as others, it still managed to draw me in and keep me interested for hours on end. Although all the names and background stories are somewhat overwhelming in the beginning, I still love the way the plot slowly unfolds and the different strands develop. The way it is executed in this book is unlike anything I have ever seen before. This book does its job of introducing the reader to the story brilliantly. It is obvious that this series will not be many stories in many books, but rather one long story of many individual ones.

However, I do wish that the author would include some kind of reminder of who the less relevant characters are. Although this does appear throughout the novel occasionally, I still found myself having to look back in some parts of the book when a character is mentioned that I do not recall. On the other hand, the book is excellently edited, as I could not find a single typo.

Overall, I had no issues following the different plots and characters as these developed, and fully recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy novels, which is why I give it a rating of five out of five, as its shortcomings do not come close to outweighing its qualities.
