We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an enchanting tapestry of fantasy that beckons readers into the intricacies of the fictional world of Voulhire. With a remarkable ability, Tysz constructs a rich and expansive setting, complete with diverse cultures, histories, and a complex political landscape. The narrative unfolds the journey of Galen Bray, a refugee escaping the turmoil of his homeland to find solace in the advanced nation of Voulhire.

King Wilhelm governs the prosperous Kingdom of Voulhire, where citizens enjoy comfortable lives, yet unbeknownst to them, evil lurks in the shadows. Galen Bray, hailing from the strife-ridden Lands of the Princes, ventures to Voulhire to inherit his uncle's blacksmithing business, setting the stage for a series of events that could turn his new home into another battleground.

Tysz's writing style is an elegant dance of words, reflecting his profound love for the fantasy genre. The prose, at times lyrical, showcases Tysz's talent for crafting beautiful and immersive narratives. The plot, finely tuned, weaves together elements of adventure, politics, and personal growth. Tysz adeptly balances these components, ensuring a narrative that remains engaging and dynamic. The story unfolds at a deliberate pace, allowing for the gradual unraveling of mysteries and revelations, keeping readers captivated.

The characters in We Are Voulhire are intricately developed, and Galen Bray's journey of learning and self-discovery serves as a compelling focal point. The presence of characters with both benevolent and malevolent intentions adds layers to the narrative, maintaining reader engagement in the evolving dynamics of the story. Eldus, an admirable leader serving the people of Hillport with zeal, further enhances the depth of the character ensemble.

While the book's pace may be perceived as slow, the payoff in the end is pleasantly surprising, with nothing more to criticize. The book is professionally edited, with only minor errors, earning it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. I wholeheartedly recommend We Are Voulhire to fantasy enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in new and magical universes.
