Kantara, penned by Mary and Stephen Weller, is a science fiction adventure that takes readers on a thrilling journey through time. The story orbits around a character named Keiji, who, rather unexpectedly, finds himself transported from the twenty-first century to a different era, all due to a mysterious voice known as the doctor. Keiji's newfound quest? To locate a crucial scroll. Along the way, Keiji crosses paths with an intriguing woman named Hazi, who, at an astonishing 226 years of age, becomes his steadfast companion.

The authors exhibit their storytelling prowess with a narrative brimming with suspense and excitement. As Keiji and Hazi embark on their journey, they are met with unanticipated challenges, including being captured by soldiers. Hazi, who's transgressed the law, must now prove herself by facing a colossal adversary in a battle of life and death. However, as the plot unfolds, Keiji discovers that the doctor's initial instructions held back the whole truth about the perilous world he's thrust into – a world scarred by an apocalypse. Here, unlikely alliances form between dragons, soldiers, and giants to stand against reptilian foes and other mysterious races in an ongoing war.

One of the novel's standout features is the character development. Witnessing Keiji's transformation from an ordinary man into a brave adventurer is absolutely enthralling, while Hazi's enigmatic persona keeps readers intrigued throughout the tale. The authors have skillfully interwoven emotions into the narrative, causing readers to genuinely care about the characters and their quests.

The world-building in Kantara is simply superb. The post-apocalyptic setting is vividly depicted, and the intricate portrayal of the various races and alliances enriches the story. The inclusion of dragons introduces a fantastical element to the science fiction backdrop, filling the reading experience with wonder.

The book's pacing is well-calibrated, maintaining the reader's engagement from start to finish. The action sequences are pulse-pounding, while quieter moments allow for contemplation and deeper exploration of the characters' motivations.

In terms of editing, Kantara stands out as a professionally polished work, I was not able to locate a single error, attesting to the authors' dedication to delivering a refined manuscript. In short, there's virtually nothing to dislike about the novel.

In summary, Kantara is a must-read for aficionados of science fiction and fantasy. The gripping storyline, well-crafted characters, and immersive world-building elevate it to a prominent position in the genre. Kantara unquestionably merits a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It offers an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, courage, and surprising alliances. If you seek an exhilarating escape into a realm of time-travel quests and fantastical beings, then Kantara is the book you've been searching for.
