The story follows Galen Bray, a refugee who has escaped his war-torn home and immigrated to Voulhire, a more advanced and knowledgeable country. In Voulhire, Galen learns not only about the country itself, but about the world, including the home he had come from. He also begins to recognize the clues scattered among many different people that reveal humanity's relationship with the universe.
However, not all of the Voulhirians are benevolent. There are those who seek destruction, power, and to use this world in order to gain power in other worlds. Through all of this, Galen himself is learning, and he will discover how the ambitions of complicated people are going to affect this nation he's falling in love with.
Tysz does a great job of building his world and introducing his characters. The writing is descriptive and engaging, and the story is full of intrigue and suspense. I was particularly interested in the themes of imagination, science, and spirituality that Tysz explores in the novel.
One of the things I appreciated most about the book was that Tysz didn't shy away from difficult topics. He explores themes of war, violence, and oppression in a thoughtful and nuanced way. He also shows how these things can impact individuals and communities on a deep level.
Overall, I thought We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was a well-written and thought-provoking novel. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
