Review of The Temple Of Truth And Lies
The Temple of Truth and Lies by James Duvall is a fast-paced fantasy novel. It follows a monk named Deszarius on his quest to a dangerous island to break a curse. On his way there, he'll meet several characters who will accompany him on his adventure. He will meet new friends and foes on his journey to the mysterious temple.
This novel tells an exciting story where the characters work together to solve problems and overcome obstacles. The resourceful characters will do whatever it takes to succeed. There is never a dull moment in this book. It is action-packed and filled with tense and exciting fighting scenes.
Something that I truly enjoyed was the wide range of characters. Each character was unique and captivating. Two of my favorite characters were Galadrius and Gil-Thorn. Even though they were side characters, the author took his time to develop them and their own stories. It made me more eager to read the story and see how their plots developed.
I also loved the fighting scenes. They were descriptive and made the book more engaging. I also liked that the author took his time to explain some of the magical systems within the book. The descriptions prevented the book from being confusing. It also helped to flesh out the world. Overall, the author did a wonderful job explaining the different components, such as the fights and the magic.
One thing that I did think the book could do better was the dialogue. At times, the dialogue felt a bit awkward or out of place. However, I did appreciate the witty humor in the speech. It was funny and helped to lighten up some of the scenes. A lot of the dialogue was funny and natural, but there could have been some improvements in the awkward places.
Another thing that can be improved is the beginning. At first, it was hard for me as the reader to get into. A lot was going on with so many characters introduced at once. While it eventually made sense, it was pretty overwhelming at first. A part of this comes from the beginning being undetailed. However, once the book picked up, I was able to invest myself in the book.
Overall, the book was an enjoyable read. It was never dull and filled with action. I did notice some grammar mistakes, which were distracting at times. Nevertheless, most of the book was well written.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the characters in this book and the way that the fight scenes and magic were described. However, I took off a star due to the grammar mistakes, awkward dialogue, and confusing beginning. I would recommend this book to all fantasy readers. People who enjoyed the Indiana Jones franchise would also highly enjoy this book.
