This book reads like a dungeons and dragons campaign, because of the pacing, the plot and the characters actions. Now, normally those kind of games appeal because you can decide yourself what happens, which isn't the case here.

Furthermore the events and places mentioned at the beginning of the book without sufficient explanation give the reader the feeling they somehow started with the second book, making it hard to get immersed.

The author used many uncommon words, making comprehension difficult. Some sentences have unnecessary parts that destroy the reading flow. This, together with the unrealistic seeming dialog causes this book to be a difficult and therefore longer read.
However, I couldn't find any grammatical or spelling errors.

Moments between friends that are usually left to the readers imagination like banter and moments of understanding are written out explicitly, as well as unnecessary observations about the situation, the past, the future or just a squirrel, while more important seeming conversations are omitted.

The described low technological stage of the setting does not fit with the knowledge of the main characters, which should not be possible without sufficient technology. They also discuss as if they had studied many topics for years, when they are described to be simple wandering soldiers, which causes confusion.

The two main characters act so similarly that I couldn't tell them apart for half of the book. They are also both pretty overpowered and somehow always get exactly the help they need. They also always are exactly the help others need, arriving just in time, able to defeat enemies that outnumber them.

After a few repeats there was no longer any suspense left to make me want to read more of their adventure.
This, together with the writing stile, makes me rate this book a two out of five. I wouldn't rate it a one, because the worldbuilding was in parts enjoyable.
All in all not a book I liked.
