Imagine yourself being in a situation where: you are a great inventor (someone would name you a genius), and you invented something that has never being created before. What would be your thoughts after? Self-pride, dreams of being famous and wealthy? Probably, but Trey Radisson was tortured by nightmares. He couldn’t get rid of his only thought: “What if my creation would be used for bad and evil things? Should I show it to the world or better just… destroy it?”.
Or being in Sonya McCall’s situation: you are an attractive young woman dating a leader of a criminal gang. At the beginning, you’re witnessing crimes and violence, after you become a target of it. More likely, you would agree that escaping is not only reasonable, but also the only way out.
Two different stories about different decisions and consequences. Could they cross? And would that crossing end up well? “Chrome Mountain” by Ben Schneider is about to tell you.

“Chrome Mountain” is a sci-fi book with thriller elements, however, I think it might be interesting even for non-fans of the genre. Why?
First of all, the sci-fi elements described in the novel are not quite far from nowadays, that’s why it’s easier for us to imagine. Moreover, all elements, events and even minor characters are well-described. Talking about the main characters, I was pleasantly surprised by describing their backgrounds. Of course, it’s not their lifetime background, but you have all you need to know about them to justify (or judge) their actions. The way Trey and Sonya were switching their priorities was also well described: when Trey, usually thinking about science and the common good, suddenly decided to prioritize himself, meanwhile Sonya did exactly the opposite thing. This is all contained in a small-size book, which eliminates unnecessary stretching and keeps the reader in good tension.
Also, there was some minor profanity, borderline words also(I could name “whore” as one), but it did not spoil my impression.
In addition, I didn’t notice any typos besides one with time indication, and it shows us the great work Ben Schneider put into this book.
I would name “Chrome Mountain” one of the best sci-fi novels I’ve ever read and I rate it 4 out of 5. The ending of the story was predictable for me, that’s why I can’t rate it higher, but I would recommend this book to to read.
