Severed Roots
Mentions of sex, sexual urges in men. Women getting pregnant. Happens throughout the book on different occasions. There is LGBTQ+ content between women, which some readers may consider sexual. There is nothing explicitly sexual in the novel and the characters only kissed or hugged. (2/5 sexual content)

I did not notice any typos or grammatical mistakes. I was surprised cause I usually see at least 1 in a book of this length. This was proofread very well and I commend the author on their editing.

Borderline/possible profanity Page 188 - crappy

Mrs. Fullerfaith's name seems a bit on the nose. I suppose it works in this dystopian novel seeing that people in this world are assigned or make their own names.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic and left many questions unanswered. Overall, the book was an ok read, but just didnt seem to flow much. Nick fumbled his way through many of the situations he was in, although he was an enjoyable character to follow.

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if there was more consistency and tie-ins with the overall plot and world while also giving Nick justice. The reader never got to meet Nick's "friends" again, did not truly address or solve the conflict with the Hardinians, and never got to give Beatrice the happiness and ending that she deserved. The way the author hyped Nick up to be so open-minded; the narrative was sort of setting him up to be a savior or peacemaker of the conflict of the world and I would have enjoyed to see Nick transform into this sort of hero.

This book seems to be more catered towards a teenager or young adult. The concepts that the book addressed were good topics of discussion, but ultimately led nowhere fulfilling. Good grammar and vocabulary of the author, but overall the storytelling could use some work. 3/5 Stars
