We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fictional novel that is a combination of imagination, science and spirituality. The author begins the book by introducing to the reader the different characters featured in the story. If you have ever wondered or even doubted the reality or existence of magic, Matthew Tysz clarifies this subject to you in a manner that will leave you satisfied and convinced that Magic is not only real but that it has a world of its own. This all happens in the kingdom of Voulhire where the leaders and the people living there seem to possess supernatural powers with which they get what they want, and also get to manipulate those they want to. The belief here is that the two worlds of magic and cosmos work together.

Magistrate Meldorath embarks on a mission to get Lord Orlin for alleged indecent acts upon children. By his unique authority Meldorath dethrones Orlin as Lord of Hillport, gets him arrested and takes his position. Unfortunately, Meldorath's tenure is short lived because after three months of being in office, the king of Voulhire gives a certain woman the responsibility to arrest Lord Meldorath. He gets shipped out the territory and is locked up in a castle where he still controls many of the people and the affairs of the kingdom by his magical powers, for he himself is a mage. Most of the people of Voulhire were made to believe that Meldorath was dead just to dispel their fears and dread of the man, but they would later discover that he was alive and in control, for he eventually got to kill Eldus and his family, the Lord who had been assigned by king Wilhem to oversee the development of the town of Hillport.

As i read this book it felt like i was watching g a horror movie for the setting of the book is like one of a movie with different characters appearing in different scenes as the picture of life in the kingdom of Voulhire is painted with such clarity and precision. We get to meet the Emperor of Lullabies, a wise and wicked ruler of a huge territory who, suspecting that his four sons had a conspiracy to share his continent equally among themselves once he was overthrown, decides to send them away from his palace by allocating each of them a small chain of the islands off the mainland of his empire. He also gives them adequate weapons to defend themselves. Two years later the brothers engage in a civil war which leads the people of these lands to flee to Voulhire, for in those lands of the princes if you were not a business owner or somehow a direct contributor to the economy, you'd live your life languishing in poverty and starving.

Galen is one of those who fled to Voulhire, at the invitation of his dying great uncle through his executor who facilitated his travel to the Voulhirian city of Magnum Caelum. There, a huge estate, a cache of gold and hope of a new life awaited Galen, courtesy of his great uncle. Galen had to go through some orientation.to discover more about his new home and carry on with his uncle's trade as a blacksmith.
Every character that comes in the scene throughout this book reveals their own share of involvement in or awareness of the power of magic and its influence in their life or work. This makes me think that the author has some deep knowledge of magic for him to concoct a story like this that appears so realistic. After reading this book the reader can't help but wonder if our current kingdoms and nations are governed and ruled under the influence of magic. Is it possible for leaders to rule without the influence of the spiritual world? Does the one with the greater spiritual power win the day where there is competition and opposition?

A bit of tension will grip your heart as you read this book if you're not accustomed to hearing or reading pieces on magic and the dark world. If you are a fan of books on spirituality i recommend this book. The author did a very good job in taking us to his imaginary world and making the experience feel real. This is what i liked most about this book. What i disliked about the book is that the author reveals too much content about magic that made me feel like i was being initiated into the world of magic. I did not see any errors at all which means that this book was professionally edited. I therefore rate it five out of five stars.
