Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies

Matthew Tysz's We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is an extraordinary tale that captivated me from beginning to end. The protagonist, Galen Bray, embarks on a journey after inheriting a generous legacy from his great-uncle. Leaving behind his war-torn homeland, the Land of Princes, Galen finds himself in Magnum Caelum, a town within the Voulhire region, where his newfound inheritance awaits. Here, he embraces a fresh start and follows in his great-uncle's footsteps, immersing himself in the craft of blacksmithing.
Meanwhile, King Wilhelm of Voulhire becomes increasingly concerned about the troubles plaguing one of his towns, Hillport. The disruptive forces of Lord Melodrath and Lord Orlin wreak havoc on Hillport, with the former employing dark magic to inflict suffering and the latter serving as his malevolent guide. In an effort to restore peace and prosperity, King Wilhelm entrusts Lord Eldus with the task of rescuing the town. Will the King succeed in ousting these wicked lords? How does Lord Eldus navigate this precarious situation? And what role does Galen Bray, the blacksmith, play in this intricate narrative? My experience with We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was thoroughly enjoyable. The story immediately grabs the reader's attention with its fast-paced action, seamlessly immersing them in a new and intriguing world. Notably, the book commendably incorporates a significant representation of female characters, a rarity in the realm of high fantasy. The author's skillful world-building transports readers to vivid and picturesque settings, making the reading experience truly immersive. The unique and alluring magic system introduced in the book further piqued my curiosity, leaving me eager to explore more of the story's intricately crafted world. The complex and distinct personalities of the characters added depth and richness to the narrative, while the author's accessible writing style made the book easy to comprehend and enjoy.
However, I must note that initially, the story felt somewhat laborious, requiring time to establish its rhythm and fully engage the reader. Additionally, the explicit depiction of violence was a discomforting aspect of the book. Despite these minor shortcomings, they do not significantly diminish the overall enjoyment derived from the reading experience.
Considering its enthralling storyline that kept me eagerly turning the pages, I unequivocally rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I must also commend the exceptional editing, as I did not encounter a single grammatical error or typo throughout the entire book.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to fantasy enthusiasts seeking an action-packed and suspenseful narrative. It is a compelling read that will leave readers longing for more. However, I advise sensitive readers to approach the book with caution due to its explicit violent scenes and some mature language.
