Review of Agatha the Beloved Queen
[Following is a volunteer review of "Agatha the Beloved Queen" by Fred Pilcher.]
In the distant land of Xana, Princess Agatha resided as the sole offspring of Queen Julia. Xana was a kingdom characterized by segregation, where the aristocrats luxuriated in wealth and comfort while the commoners endured abject poverty. Education and other basic amenities were exclusively reserved for aristocrats and royals. Princess Agatha, driven by her desire to end this segregation, aimed to establish equality and prosperity for all.
During Princess Agatha's twentieth birthday ceremony and official coronation as the heir to the throne of Xana, a wicked sorcerer named Magi attacked the kingdom. The sorcerer killed Queen Julia, plundered the land of its riches, and subjected the people of Xana to continuous torment, abuse, and starvation. Princess Agatha was thus faced with the daunting challenge of defeating the sorcerer and restoring equality and prosperity to her kingdom, fulfilling her lifelong dream.
To accomplish this, she must seek out Prince Olaf and collaborate with him. I urge you to acquire a copy of this book to unravel the enthralling adventure that unfolds within its pages.

The novel's plot artfully interweaves elements of political intrigue, romance, and adventure, showcasing the queen's ability to make difficult decisions, form alliances, and confront adversaries head-on. On multiple occasions, the queen encounters situations where she believes a deserving child is denied admission to school. Taking matters into her own hands, she personally escorts the child to school and insists on their admission. Queen Agatha has a genuine fondness for children, as exemplified by her inclusion of Anya and Michael Gant in her council at a very tender age.
Regarding criticism, I would highlight the explicit sexual content in the novel. The book delves into various aspects of human sexuality, encompassing themes such as romance, passion, desire, and sensuality. In the land of Xana, nudity and sexuality were openly acknowledged, with couples engaging in sexual intercourse in public spaces with minimal reprimand. Premarital sex was also encouraged. Additionally, the novel contains violent scenes and profanity.
Despite these elements, I believe the novel possesses many features that align with children's literature. The storyline tends to be idealized and fantastical, which may render it unreal or too idyllic for adult readers but enjoyable for young readers. I find it perplexing that a book that could have been more appealing to children is laden with explicit sexual content, violence, and profanity. Nevertheless, since the author did not specify that the book was intended for young readers, I cannot lower my rating based on this aspect.
I would award Agatha the Beloved Queen a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Its positive aspects include a strong female protagonist, themes of gender equality, and advocacy for children's welfare. However, I deducted one star due to the presence of noticeable errors in the novel.
