Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great skies by Mathew Tysz is a book that carries a reader from the real world to the realm of fantasy. The book vividly portrays the captivating nature of Voulhire kingdom illustrating its pros and cons.
Mathew Tysz explains both the good and bad aspect that faced by kingdoms around the world. Let’s begin with leadership aspect. Based on the scene of the nations and territories were ruled by kings. In the kingdom of Voulhire was ruled by king Wilhelm who portrayed his character as a friendly and a very loyal monarch. For example, king Wilhelm decided to send lord Eldus Alderman to take over from lord Meldorath who was wild same to his predecessor lord Orlin. Additionally, Wilhelm went as far as executing Meldorath, demonstrating his love and loyalty to his people. We witness the fruitful services of the new lord of Hillport lord, Eldus who provided a platform for his citizens to express their grievances. He even took the time personally to speak to children affected by the magic of lord Orlin.
Royal succession the major cause of wars in the land of the princes, resulting in much suffering due to the struggle for the throne. On the other hand, king Wilhelm faces tension regarding whether his son will be chosen as his successor. Fortunately, Voulhire follows procedures where the heir to the crown must be approved by the Mianoran council, a neutral entity. This helps to minimize the chaos in the kingdom. We also witness Galen Bray take over his role of blacksmith from his uncle, as well as Midius Maido assuming the position of chancellor in the Mianoran council. Following his late father.
The author highlights the matter of equality in Voulhire, where there are no discriminations among Voulharians. For instance, Lady Indara serves as vice to Midius Maido and there are also female warriors among the Mianorian knights. Religion plays a significant role in Voulhire, satisfying the spiritual and emotional needs of its people. This is strongly by king Wilhelm and lord Eldus, who allowed the construction of churches in Hillport and throughout Voulhire.
Furthermore, the author delves into the extend of betrayal in Voulhire. Lord Orlin and Meldorath betrayed their king and the people of Hillport by neglecting their needs.
I highly recommend this book and rate it 5 out 5 due its captivating and fantastical portrayal. The author skilfully developed the characters ensuring their roles align with their personalities. The inclusion of a map provides a clear understanding of the kingdoms discussed in the book. additionally, the author has provided a glossary of vocabularies which greatly aided my comprehension of the story.
However, I must note that the book contains some sensitive scenes, such as mass killing, bloodshed and child abuse. This might be disturbing to certain readers. I recommend that individuals sensitive to such content avoid reading the book. Despite of this minor weakness the book is well edited with a compelling storyline and a well-defined setting. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
