Gnome Homes, Fantasy Realms Coloring Book, Volume 1, is a coloring book that offers a relaxing and inspiring time, while exploring the mystical world of playful and mischievous gnomes.

As far as drawing your eye and holding your interest, this book has plenty of fanciful pictures to comb through, and while each image follows the same premise- a gnome home- it can also boast that none of the images look repetitive.

There is a vast selection of different scenes and setting to chose from. From little rural homes and small villages set on lake shores, to bustling cityscapes on mountain tops and everything in between, almost every type of fantasy realm is featured in this book.

On top of a great variety of settings, there is also differentiations in style. Some of the scenes in this book are simple pictures of quaint country homes, while others are bursting with details of a working society and complex landscapes backed with spirals and mandala patterns.

The artist took their time in crafting these settings, including little things like watering cans and gardening tools leaning against a house, or boats bobbing on a lake by the dock, and many other small things that create a feeling of someone living in these homes and the clever ways a society would function in the their location. It really does draw your interest and spark your imagination when coloring.

What color does a gnome living in a treetop paint their house? If a gnome lived in a fishing village, what colors are the items hanging from the market stalls? Do the gnomes on the mountain ranges live in homes that are earth tones, or do the prefer bright colors that standout against the sky?

All questions only YOU can answer when you set pencil to paper.

The one fault to the book is sadly a big one, as almost all the illustrations in the book are either pixelated or blurred. The pixelated images are not too terrible to color, and while it would look nice to have clean lines, it does not have that big of an effect on the finished image; The blurred ones are another story. It looks like you are seeing the illustrations through a fog, or without your glasses. Unfortunately, even when colored the pictures still appear hazy and indistinct. Because of this, many of the smaller details and features of the illustrations are lost making it rather hard to color.

Altogether, I found Gnome Homes, Fantasy Realms Coloring Book, Volume 1, to be a fun and interesting coloring book, though I tended to stay away from the blurred illustrations as I found them to be more frustrating than relaxing. The redeeming features are the details (as long as you can see them), so if you a interested in an intricate and fascinating coloring book, and you won’t mind the pictures that are more difficult to make out, then this book is a good choice for you. As for myself, I would give the book a solid 2 out of 5 stars.
