We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a remarkable fantasy novel.

Voulhire has a cast of different characters, races, and genders. The main characters are well-developed and have distinct personalities. A lot of the interactions and relationships are complex, which adds to the story. There's also an emotional touch to the book, with several poignant moments that revisit the character's past traumas and relationships. I liked the vulnerability that was presented. Matthew explores things such as power, identity, and the nature of good and evil. Matthews's book also contains humour, the banter between the characters is witty and entertaining, adding a light-hearted side to the story. These themes are woven into the plot, giving the story meaning. You also get subtle clues about what is to come, which adds to the anticipation. The magic system in the book is truly well thought out. Matthew does a great job of explaining how the magic works and the limitations of each one. This also helps you understand the stakes of the conflict. Action scenes are exciting, and they were nicely choreographed. Matthew has created a rich and immersive world in Voulhire, with detailed descriptions of its geography, culture, and history. The world feels fully realized and unique, with its own mythology.

Matthew resolved many major plot points, but some unanswered questions left me feeling unsatisfied. I believe this is likely due to the fact that the book is the first in a series, so some questions might get answered in future instalments. The book is quite long, which was a bit daunting for me. Some people may find it difficult to commit to finishing the book. The world-building and mythology are very tricky, it took me a while to fully understand the story.

The positives overpowered the negatives of the book. I'm looking forward to reading more books from the series, with a few adjustments to the others that will make it easier to understand the series as a whole. The book was a good read. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars. The editing was excellently done. I found no grammar or spelling mistakes.

Fans of the fantasy genre will find a lot to love about the book. It contains struggles and power conflicts, which will definitely attract readers who enjoy stories with intrigue and maneuvering. I do think teenagers will also like the book.
