We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the Voulhire series. It blends science fiction and fantasy in its stories. In the land of the Princes, it was death by the sword or slow starvation. Galen Bray moves to the land of Voulhire, a small town of Magnum Caelum to take over his uncle's estate. His uncle, who was a blacksmith, had died, and he had to go there.

He goes there to look for peace, but he finds the unexpected. The land is filled with people with supernatural powers. He meets Rowan, his uncle's executor, who promises to help him. Rowan becomes very helpful to him. King Wilhelm is the king of Voulhire. The citizens of Voulhire live in fear of Riva Rohavi. These are dark forces threatening the peace and prosperity of the land.

I like the way the book has strong character development. It has many characters with diverse behaviors. I like the way Rowan is very supportive of Galen. The author also uses a lot of creativity in magic. The magic in the book is so entertaining when solving crimes. I enjoyed seeing how external forces brought about unimaginable changes. The stories in the book are so imaginative, especially the dancing soldiers. The author has included a reference guide at the end of the book. This is a captivating writing style.

I dislike how the author started the book. It is full of action from the beginning, which was tiring. The twists and turns in the book were a bit shocking and made the plot complex. The book also has a slow build-up, making some parts tiring because there is so little going on. However, this does not make me deduct a star from the book. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because I found no grammatical errors or typos in it. The book was exceptionally well edited.

I recommend this book to people who like political stories. There are a lot of political twists in the book. Lovers of magic for solving crimes will also love it. The book has a lot of profanity, violence, and sexual references. I would, therefore, recommend it to a mature audience.
