Review of Zona: The Forbidden Land
Grant Taylor, a professor at the University of Chicago, travels to Saint Petersburg, Russia, in his capacity as his uncle Randall's estate executor. The uncle, a bachelor scientific adventurer, had been declared dead after he went on an expedition and unfortunately did not come back. As soon as he sets foot in the apartment, he gets caught up in a break-in. Deeply concerned about why the burglar was rummaging through the library, he requests Randall’s attorney, Boris, get him services to prevent this. He is assigned Irina, who is the attorney’s niece. Within the ups and downs of trying to solve the puzzle, Taylor stumbles into documents and journals, which make him thirst to know more and more about mystery land and the disappearance. Colonel Volkov, the only survivor of the previous excursion, and a team of scientists, biologists, and soldiers try again, this time more informed and equipped to visit the land beyond the horizons. He finally understands the advice he had been given against trusting anyone. Was Taylor able to solve the big elephant in the room of Randall’s disappearance?
This book gave me an incredible rush as I read it. In a place where wild animals didn't treat intruders kindly, how did they ever get the courage to continue their journey? I was unable to put the book down because I was so interested in learning whether the objective was ultimately accomplished. The writing style and the plot twist are enthralling and intriguing. Because the action happens so quickly, it is easy to read through and maintain attention. I was glad that Irina's connection and Taylor's forecast turned out to be accurate. The plot surprise is quite alluring. I could easily visualize the forays into the woods, and every time they came under attack, I wanted them to just give up. The way the author delivered the message was spot on.
Nothing about this book bothered me. I found the book to be enjoyable. This was simple to read and navigate because of its three sections. I am eager to get my hands on the next series of the book. If the readers themselves read it, it would be more fulfilling.
I am rating Zona: The Forbidden Land by Fred G. Baker 5 out of 5 stars. I was unable to deduct a star because I believe the book is deserving. No typos or grammatical errors were present, which suggests the book was exceptionally well edited.
Readers who enjoy adrenaline-rushing adventures to solve mysteries and a dash of romance will definitely enjoy this.
