The Prophecy of the Heron by Craig W. Stanfill can be said to be an interesting find where one can indulge in living in a fantasy and futuristic world. I love the way Mr. Stanfill painted this world in his novel, representing a possible future related to our reality, which in a way makes us reader more involved with the plot as the story gets unwounded. The general plot line is quite easy to follow and the novel even has room to further develop into a series. The novel might be a bit more interesting if there is more twist to the plot and some suspense added to spice up the tale. The ending may be final in a sense, but there is still a certain development that can be further extended in order to create a sequel for this book. The story is somewhat a bit short to compress all these concepts into one without one first having a basic understanding of computers and technology in order to relate to it. The part where I felt a bit uncomfortable reading this novel, even though it was intended, was the difficulty in differentiating the gender of the characters due to the use of the pronoun. This can be corrected by giving more description in order to paint in more detail the surroundings so that one can infer without getting confused at certain points in the story. Perhaps due to this, I believe that some interpretation of the plot may be altered from one person to another because of prejudice instilled in us and also the socio-environment that one was raised in. This concept of writing is in a way refreshing to me, since it wasn’t common in the books that I had read before. I also felt that the ending might be a bit rushed in comparison to the flow of the entire novel. My rating for this book is a 4 out of 5 since it managed to capture my attention and the concept is somewhat realistic.
