I really enjoyed reading this book. Until now I haven't read much about future civilizations - at least not much that managed to really capture me. I especially love the author's detailed descriptions of the surroundings, rhe cities and the landscapes. It really made me feel like I'm there. What I also liked was the author's choice of words. Some books use language or terminology that just does not fit in the time or place the story is playing, and that is luckily not at all the case in "The prophecy of the Heron". One of the most interesting characters from my point of view was the Director. His cold, cruel and taunting mannerisms sometimes nearly gave me chills.
Some characters at some points could use a little more depth, but I loved how Kim was written. Her friendship with Shan was beautifully developed and in my opinion really showed character growth. Also the ending was "chef's kiss". They drifted down the river, and were forgotten. I just love this choice of words.
I would rate this book 4 out of five.
