We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is about the Kingdom of Voulhire, a place full of fear and disaster. Meldorath, the past leader of Hillport, created a chaotic world that terrorizes the whole realm. He uses black magic to kill people, and even when he is not around, the citizens and even the higher-ups are always watching their backs for whatever might happen. Also, because of him, some mages have had the courage to follow his steps and seize the opportunity to take down the Kingdom of Voulhire.

What I like about the book is when Lord Eldus went to the Hillport to become their leader and to be able to serve the people. He considers all the possibilities and things that the people want to be able to succeed in the land that was once full of blood. I also loved the personalities of his daughter and wife; they are very compassionate toward their people and always take the time to listen to their inquiries.

What I don’t like about the book is how the author includes so many characters and their points of view, to the point that readers can’t even identify the main characters. But, other than that, I really enjoy reading it.

I will rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars because it is exceptionally edited and I didn’t notice a mistake. I really commend the author’s style of writing; it is easy to understand. I just hope that he will consider limiting the perspectives of the characters and focusing on the main cast.

I will recommend this book to young adults, especially to those who enjoy reading about mages and black magic. They would also understand how important the position of Lord Eldus and his sacrifices as a leader of a once a disastrous land.
