We are Voulhire: A New Arrival beneath Great Skies by Matthew Tysz was a lovely surprise, and I had the pleasure of reading it. Although I don't typically read books in this category, I found myself utterly engrossed and unable to put it down. The first line of the story, "Once there was...", has a fairy tale-like character that captivates the reader and entices them to travel to a strange and intriguing realm.

A poor guy from a region that has experienced war, Gallen, is on a boat journey to collect an inheritance from his uncle. We learn about the Emperor of Lullabies, who feared that his four sons would usurp him, while traveling send them off to several islands. Civil war erupted as the sons got older and started to rule their islands. The small town of Magnum Caelum, where Gallen is going, the holy area of Yamon Soul, the crime-ridden Virko, and the capital city of Soulhire are all located in the county of Voulhire, which is under the control of King Wilhelm. There, Gallen meets Rowan, a pivotal figure who appears frequently throughout the book.

Gallen travels to Magnum Caelum and signs the documents to claim his inheritance, which consists of a home and a forge. He joins Rowan's squad to complete the mission after Rowan provides him with a notebook, a letter, and the deeds to the house and the forge. Rowan to make an effort to restore peace and safety to the county. The antagonistic Riva Rohavi clan and a strong wizard imprisoned on an island are two plot devices that generate excitement and keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

The book's inclusion of a map at the beginning, which helped me understand the geography and the locations the protagonists were visiting, was one feature I found particularly pleasing. Additionally, the characters were well-written and believable, giving me the impression that I was actually meeting them. The primary character, Gallen, was particularly likable because his feelings and thoughts were genuine and familiar. It was also notable how descriptive the book's prose was, with lines like "The war dragged, like providing powerful vision that helped me picture the world of Voulhire was "fingernails cracking in dirt."

The inability to distinguish between the characters was one issue I had. A character list following the map would have been helpful for me to remember who was who, especially with the unique places and names in the novel. The story's flow was also hampered by a few words that I had to hunt up the definitions for. It was annoying to have to put the book down in order to seek up a term in order to better grasp the story, even if learning new words and concepts is usually a good thing.

We are Voulhire's audience is as follows: Anyone interested in the Middle Ages would like A New Arrival under Great Skies. I would suggest it to anyone looking for a getaway from their daily lives, whether for fun or for imagination. Even though I'm not a lover of the genre, I found myself totally absorbed in the novel and intrigued by what will happen next. Overall, I would give this book a respectable 3 out of 4 stars because of the engaging tale, well-rounded characters, and beautiful visuals. Raiting of the bbook 3 out of 5
