Genesis Awakens by Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugom is a captivating fictional story presenting the journey of the protagonist, Genesis as Gen, on her journey as the story unfolds upon her arrival at her home after her grandfather’s untimely death. Gen is unable to shrug off the loss of the untimely death of her grandfather and becomes suspicious about her parents' attitude towards it and the cause of his deth. Unable to accept it, she unravels the hidden secrets buried centuries deep, which leads to a series of revelations that will lead her to her destiny—to save the world.
Genesis Awakens is an absolute mix of action, magic, adventure, religion, fantasy, and some romance. The book contains a few Bible verses and revolves around the Crucifixion of Jesus. It is neither disrespectful nor overbearing in the context of religion. One thing I absolutely loved is the intriguing action brought to life by Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugomg. They kept me on the edge of my chair, and this is new because I am not a fan of action. Also, the story mainly follows the themes of good vs evil, sin, love, and forgiveness, but with twists that will leave you wanting more. I rate the novel 4/5 because, firstly, in the beginning of the book, the word usage felt forceful rather than adding flare but it gets better as the story goes on. Secondly, the time slips are uncertain at points which makes it hard to catch up with the time dimension and the introduction of characters. Lastly, I recommend adding a disclaimer as the book contains action and slight profanity.
Overall, the plot is well-knit and the mythological take on the Crucifixion of Jesus was refreshing to read. I look forward to more of this series.
