After the death of his mentor, Delvin decides to change his life to pursue his dream. He doesn't realize that the mystery which shrouded the death of his friend will launch him into an unexpected journey. As he struggles to uncover the truth, he makes unexpected friendships and learns that he is stronger than he realized.

Charles Townsend’s The Magician’s Secret takes the reader on a fantastical journey of magic and plight. The book is enjoyable and the story captivates the reader with unexpected twists. The characters are well-written. They are both relatable and flawed which allows the reader to build a relationship with them as they evolve. Moments in the story cause the reader’s empathy to transition between different characters. This contributes to the enjoyment of the text. The book seems to be professionally edited with only a couple of errors which do not detract from the meaning or overall enjoyment of the reading.

Although the characters are well written, the plotline could be further developed. Some of the events feel rushed or disconnected. Additional context or description would not detract from the readability of the text and would increase the level of reader engagement.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Magician’s Secret. I would give this book four out of five stars. I enjoyed the story and the characters. If the plot had been further developed, I would have given it a full five-star rating.

I would recommend this book to young adults and adult readers who enjoy reading fantasy for pleasure. Readers who rely on historical accuracy or plausibility may not enjoy this genre. Some themes and descriptive language may be inappropriate for young readers.
